In a recent thread at handymanclub.com they were talking about the Bosch 1587 Jigsaw.
I am in the market for a Jig Saw for multiple woodworking projects. I have read that Bosch Jig Saw is preferred the best on the market. Have any of you used this brand of Jig Saw? What were some good/bad with it? Any other brands I should consider? Any comments/suggestions would greatly appreciated. ~ rocketodd
I have had my Bosch 1587VS (top handle)for a number of years and have used it for metal and wood. Its reputation as the best is well-founded. There are other good saws out there, too, but you will not go wrong with a Bosch jig saw.
I especially like the truly variable speed switch. A slight squeeze on the trigger and the blade goes from nothing to a slow snail's speed, smoothly and all the way to full speed just as smoothly. My father borrowed my saw for a while before he bought a Dewalt jig saw (for price, and he had alot of universal shank blades and didn't want to switch to all T-shank blades) and the smooth start-up was one feature he really missed.
My Bosch jig saw is worth every penny I paid, and I don't think they are unreasonably priced. ~ Merle Good
I have had 4 jig saws before my Bosch. It is the best of all. Runs smooth, even at the low end speeds.I especially like the T blades. They do not come loose like the other blades.
I would recommend the purchase.~ John K
Bosch gets my vote as well. I've got the Progressor and have never seen anything that comes close to it. It cost a bit more, but is well worth it. ~ imtheclockman
I've had my Bosch top handle saw for about 4 years and would settle for nothing less. I work in a sheet metal fabrication shop. They used other brands and were constantly replacing them.I convinced them to get a Bosch. They have now replaced all the older saws with the Bosch.Everyone loves them, and we havent replaced one in almost 2 years now. They are being used to cut aluminum, steel and stainless steel. They take a licking but keep on ticking. ~

I too have the 1587. Great saw. Ditto to the rest. Hands down the best. ~ cedar
I have the Bosch and love it.I would sleep with it if my other half would let me.
The best I have used .Wood, metal, straight cuts, scrolling it cant be beat.It gets my vote!

Yep; got the bosch. ~ mschultz
Thanks to all who had replied to my post. It looks like I will be getting me a Bosch Jig Saw soon. Can't wait to use it! ~ rockettodd
I have the Bosch Jig, love it...love it...love it. Just be carefull, the new aluminum bases bend when dropped, just like any other, but be careful bending it back. I broke mine when I tried to bend it back like the old steel base. Cost me $20.00 to get a new base. Thing has been through a lot, and keeps going. - David, lifer
I have an old Craftsman that has been great, but now I guess I'll have to get a Bosch just so I wont feel left out. ~ LOL PaPaDan
PaPa Dan, You'll find that Your old Craftsman and the Bosch are not even the same species of tool!
It's amazing at the difference in performance between The Bosch and any of the lower to mid field tool's.
I haven't had a chance to compare them to many of the higher end jigsaws, because EVERYBODY has the Bosch including Me ~ carpfish2
I really don't use a jig saw very much anymore. Mine is about 15 years old and has the scroll knob on top so I don't have to turn the whole saw in a tight curve. Does the Bosch have that? ~ PaPaDan
Had that same saw PaPaDan. Worked OK for what I needed at that time, but after getting the Bosch,I realised just how much more I could do with the Bosch. The Bosch really gets a lot of use. I believe Craftsman was probably the only one to have that knob feature. I gave the old Craftsman to a friend. He is only an occasional user, but the tool still works. Nothing like their new stuff. ~ cedar
